A New Year—A New Announcement?

A New Year—A New Announcement?

Over the holidays, many families might have heard a shocking announcement from a child—that they were identifying as homosexual or were experiencing gender identity confusion. Perhaps the news came as a surprise, and now, as the Christmas decorations are put away and the New Year’s resolutions have fallen by the wayside, confusion and uncertainty set in.

As a parent, Regina Griggs knows exactly how these mothers and fathers feel. As executive director of Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX, www.pfox.org), the nation’s leading advocacy organization that offers love and support to families and friends of individuals with unwanted same-sex attractions and gender confusion, Griggs has helped parents navigate some of the complicated challenges that families face when sons and daughters reveal that they are gay or struggling with gender identity.

In fact, in the second half of 2015 alone, PFOX has worked with over 80 families who find that the PFOX resources help bring hope to their very personal situations.

Griggs shares the many PFOX resources that are available to parents during these difficult times. On the resources section of the web site, PFOX gives special advice to parents, such as how to join a parent support group, stories from other parents, advice to parents from ex-gays and words of wisdom from other parents.

PFOX highlights the stories of those who are either ex-gay or have been affected by transgender, homosexual and other sexual identity issues in their family on its web site at www.pfox.org/personal-stories and www.pfox.org/safe-exit. Some of those featured in the videos now serve as guest speakers at churches for the Safe Exit, a program that offers resources and expert speakers to help churches open their doors to those struggling with same-sex attractions and gender identity confusion, as well as to families whose lives have been affected by a homosexual loved one.
